Eco Friendly Benefits of Carbon Filtration over Reveres Osmosis

When choosing a water filtration system, it's important to consider both effectiveness and environmental impact. At Just Water, we prioritise sustainability and strive to offer products that are beneficial for both our customers and the planet. In this blog, we’ll delve into the environmental implications of two popular filtration methods: carbon filtration and reverse osmosis, helping you make an informed and eco-friendly choice.

Water Conservation:
Traditional Reverse Osmosis wastes up to 15 litres of water for every gallon filtered. This occurs during the filtration process, where large portions of water is discarded as brine or concentrate. Carbon filters use a more straightforward filtration process that does not involve wastewater production, making it them a more sustainable choice in terms of water conservation.

Energy Consumption:

Reverse Osmosis typically requires a constant supply of electricity to power the pump that forces water through the semi-permeable membrane. Carbon filters works through a simple filtration process where water flows through activated carbon, which absorbs and removes contaminants. This process relies on gravity or water pressure alone and does not require electrical power. Since carbon filters don't require electricity, this makes it more sustainable and an economical choice in the long run.

Recyclable Components:

Reverse Osmosis systems require regular replacement of several components, including the RO membrane, pre-filters, and post-filters. These components often contain materials that are not easily recyclable, leading to additional waste. Unlike Reverse Osmosis eco-friendly filters like carbon filters generally produce minimal waste during the operation. Carbon filters often use activated carbon or charcoal, which can sometimes be recycled or repurposed in other applications. Eco friendly filters also typically have a longer lifespan compared to Reverse Osmosis system components, replacements and, consequently, the volume of waste generated.

When selecting a water filtration system, consider the full lifecycle of the product, including its impact on waste and recycling. Just Water uses eco friendly carbon filters, that not only delivers clean, refreshing and great tasting water but also supports a more sustainable approach to minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact compared to methods like Reverse Osmosis.
